And, yes, I too think Andronicus is just plain himself: he's got no sense of dual awareness you'd expect from someone whose knowledge included a future time.
He's got Tarvekian elements to his personality--not least a grumpy frustration with his Muses, that reminds me of Tarvek with Moxana and with much of the world. A sort of distilled sense of "why do you have to make everything so HARD, drat it!" But he's himself. And, yes: I really want to know what the full story of that era was. It's NOT a pretty pink fairy tale, no matter what later eras made of it.
